Tax hikes raise ire of villagers

My response to the record article

http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20101125/NEWS/11250319/-1/NEWSLETTER100

To my fellow neighbors in SBG. I personally don’t complain usually on monetary issues due to the fact that G-D gave me enough wealth so I don’t really have to care (on a personal level) about a $500 bill. But, to my fellow neighbors who do seem to take an issue with that I would like to write some common sense that I believe we all have in common. After seeing all those rhetoric talk about the budget I sat down to the actual numbers to see all the line items that’s a complete double layer taxed item which means that without the village this extra expense wouldn’t exist, period. I am not looking at the budget but to actual year to date and projected year end
Village trustees                 $21,340
Mayor                                   59,000 This line item is all confusing look into it your self
Treasurer                            25,500
Village Clerk                       118,621
Attorney                              70,300
Engineer                              11,000
Elections                              1,095
Village hall                           34,105
Unallocated Insurance   28,097
Municipal Assoc. dues   1,773
MTA Payroll Tax                500
Village events                    9,500
Employee Benefits          19,719
Zoning                                  4,700
Planning                               15,970
Leaf pick up (that doesn’t really exist)    5,000
Those are all expenses that is certainly a double layer of tax since all these was included in our town budget and the village area didn’t cost them more in all those expenses and to prove you my point lets all ask a question why didn’t the town budget lowered since we incorporated this village (ex. the town supervisor and staff didn’t cost more before we were incorporated). The other expenses would also be significant lower . For instance we pay to the town $289,300 for what we never paid extra for that we spent on street maintenance 494,183 and on top of that for town 289k what for snow removal did it cost to the town that amount extra to plow our streets then why didn’t they lower the budget for snow removal.
That’s a total of $426,120 certainly double layer of tax. That’s about a half of the total budget and the budget for next year is even higher than that.
Now that we understand that, we must all ask 1 question to ourselves “Why?” what is the cause if the cause is to keep the hasidics away from our neighborhood and you are willing to pay a yearly due for it, fine. I have no issue with that. But keep in mind something else too. The Hasidic community are coming to our neighborhood either way and for them to take control over the village will happen much sooner that they would ever be able to do town wide. So, the way I look at it is that not only we made it easier for them getting an incorporated village we even pay a yearly due for that too. We cut our necks twice and we keep on doing that.

You are posting misinformation and straight out lies about the Village of South Blooming Grove’s 2011 budget. Everyone that lives in the Town of Blooming Grove, regardless of living in a Village or not must pay the “General Townwide Tax Levy”. That rate for 2011 is $13.9982 per-thousand of assessed value. Everyone living in the Town that is not living in a Village and if you are living in Washingtonville and South Blooming Grove pay this regardless.

If you DO NOT LIVE IN A VILLAGE you must also pay the “Town Outside of Village Town Tax”. That rate is $12.8310 per-thousand of assessed value.

The Village of South Blooming Grove tax rate is $11.4609 per-thousand of assessed value.

When you compare the difference there is a total savings for the entire Village of South Blooming Grove of $64,045.36 saving in taxes if you live in the Village of South Blooming Grove than if you live in the rest of the Town of Blooming Grove that is not a Village.

    SEE the chart:

    Town 2011 tax rate per-thousand 12.831

Town outside Village Rate 2011 $599,769.36

    Village of SBG 2011 $535,724.00

Difference living in Village $64,045.36 less taxes

Since you posted anonymously you must be hiding something from the rest of us.

Why don’t you tell us your real agenda?

I would rather live in a Village where I feel that I am part of a community rather than go back to being treated like a second class citizen by the Town of Blooming Grove who runs their Town like a dysfunctional business running up huge deficits in the Water and Sewer Districts, playing the shell game with our moneys and refusing to fix our Water Sewer problems and roads. If you read the Orange County Post and have attended any Town Board meetings, like I have, you would see first hand that our State Comptroller had to conduct an audit of the Town’s Water and Sewer Districts to find that they where run into the ground at the cost of over $1.4 million in deficits that they must pay back and all of their water and sewer district are still in very poor condition and in violation of New York State Department of Environmental standards. Just ask someone who likes in Tappan who pay a yearly charge of close to $700 on a sewer treatment plant, a $300 deficit repayment, for violations for water and sewer from the NYS DEC, and still are on water restriction and have brown water.

No Thanks you can move back into the Town I would rather have the Village of South Blooming Grove succeed into Woodbury or Monroe rather than go back to that mess called the “Town of Blooming Grove”.

I know a good real estate agent to help you sell your house and move into Tappan… Just e-mail…… other wise stop your lies…..

Oh by the way you budget information is flawed as well but then you never went to the meetings to find out what is really happening… good luck moving.. see yah….

  2. Thank you very much for your participation in my nice little blog. Although I don’t appreciate your offensive statements but I appreciate your overall participation. Please all bloggers lets keep this site civil and respective to each other. A difference in opinion should not lead to offensiveness and hatred.

To the issue: What I am trying to explain is a simple economic principle that with more overlaying municipalities, resources (our money) are being wasted because it creates a lot of new positions that wouldn’t be necessary if combined. Yes you pointed out that now that we split from the town our total budget is less then Town outside Village Rate of course that’s because of the split and both sides are suffering because of it. Had it been together it wouldn’t be $599,769.36 + $535,724.00 = $1,135,493.36 it would be much less we would spend our money wisely for needed services and not for overlapping positions. That’s from a simple economic stand point. To prove it, take your tax bill from 2005, see if it was lower or not.

I think that everyone can understand this concept and if we would of eliminate all small towns and villages and have a county wide tax and school system, taxes would drop dramatically.

My conclusion I don’t have to repeat. It stays the same as the original post.

But, if we are paying a “Judenrein” fee then this economic principle doesn’t apply so stop whining about it when it comes to it.

Remember; my post was directed to the ones who raged about the tax bill not for those who are OK with it, like me and you.
